Swam 44 laps in 42 minutes Friday. Felt good but got pretty tired.
Sunday I walked 4.5 miles with a few short runs mixed in. The longest run was 1/2 mile. Felt pretty good because of the cooler temps.
Overall feeling stronger. Tulsa Run is a definite possibility!
Hope to swim in the morning and still have a 40 min. goal for 1 mile.
Mostly just a training blog. A way for me to keep track my progress as I work myself back into shape.

Did 44 laps (1 mile) in 46:16. The good news; I did the first 20 laps non-stop. The bad news; I really slowed in the last 10 laps. Still I will count this as progress.
In this picture, the pool looks dirty, but it wasn't. Must have been the lighting or something. It's always good to be the first one in the pool at 7am.

Ahhhh so darn close. Did 44 laps (one mile) in 44:39. Goal was 44 minutes. Still not non-stop as I am doing 20 then some backstroke recovery lengths. But it's improvement. Hoping to run tomorrow.
Redman Triathlon is Sept. 21st - That's probably not possible. (but perhaps the 1/2 Ironman length)
Swim: 1.2 mile, Bike: 56 miles, Run: 13.1 miles That would be pushing it.
Tulsa Run is Oct 26th. - That's doable.

On Friday, June 14th I swam 44 laps (one mile) in 44:15! That's improvement! Trying to do less kickboard, and fewer backstroke recovery lengths. Still not non-stop, but that is the goal.
On Sunday, June 16th I walked/ran 1:18. Attempting to do a little more running and less walking. I got out around 8am, but should have started soon. It was very humid.
Will try to swim in the morning. Not killing myself, but I would love to get my 44 laps in less time than it took on Friday.
Had a great father's day. Called my dad and then heard from both our kids!

It happened. I was able to swim 1 mile. It was ugly, and I took several easy laps to get my heart rate down, but did 44 laps in 46:20. Did 20 not stop, then some kickboard laps, backstroke recovery laps, and some slow lengths. It would be nice if the pool was longer so there would be fewer turns, but it's working.
Would like to do some open water swimming and see how I do in a lake. A few years ago the TAT (Tulsa Area Triathletes) did some weekly swims at Skiatook Lake. That would be a nice "test" to see how I do swimming a mile or so without help.

Got to the pool at 7:10 am all but one of the lanes were full. The goal was 40 laps in 40 minutes. So I tried the slow but steady pace. Ended up doing 41 laps in 41:37. Had to take several breaks by doing some kick board laps. Still, not bad for a fat boy. Was pretty tired by the end. The next goal will be one mile non-stop. That's 44 laps and it may take me another month to reach that goal. Hope to get on the bike some. Perhaps a fall triathlon if I can find a short one.
Running, once my strongest leg, is now the weakest. Thinking as some of this fat comes off, and my conditioning improves, running will come back much easier. At least that is the goal. It's a journey!
