Nov. 26, 2009

This morning I helped out with the Von Franken Family Food Run. It was started 29 years ago by some running friends who wanted to do something on Thanksgiving for others. Over the years it has grown. This morning, nearly 1,000 runners gathered at 31st and Riverside and brought aprox. 3,000 - 4,000 lbs. of food for the Salvation Army food bank. After the 4.2 mile run the runners are given raffle tickets and local running stores give away shirts, water bottles, etc. It was a blast.

Since the kids can't come up from Austin, and Brian is off on another rock climbing adventure we decided to relax and take it easy. Jo Ann is planning on a big Christmas with everyone here and lots of food. So we decided we would go out to some movies and eat lunch or dinner out.

Had a great bruch out then came home, and hit a movie this afternoon. I sat through New Moon and Jo Ann really enjoyed it. Knee still a bit sore, so I will hold off on running Friday, but hope to be able to run by Saturday.

Rain 4.7 miles. Didn't get the time, but trust me it was slow. My left knee was a little sore when I finished. As the day wore on it got worse. By the 10pm news I had a slight limp. Hoping it will feel better by morning.

So very proud of my co-worker George Waldenberger. George did the Route 66 marathon in 3:41:38. What a great time!

Got up at 5:45am and got on the road by 6:20am to be in McAlester by 8am. Spoke to kids at the Washington Early Childhood Center. Then went and spoke at Puterbaugh Middle school. Spoke to 3 groups of kids. Drove home, changed then went to work. Left work at 4pm to drive
to Sapulpa to do the 5pm and 6pm weather live from there. Drove home had a quick dinner the back to work. It's now 11:30pm and I am finally home and very tired.

Would have been nice to run today, or even just take a walk, or sit down for 30 minutes and read a book. Tomorrow I need to get up early to write my newspaper column and it is Jo Ann's birthday, so I will take her to lunch, then rush off to work. I really need to find a way to slow down.

Went to the doctor yesterday. That took most of the morning, so I didn't get to run. Still not feeling great. Worked on the yard today. Raked and mulched leaves. We bought an upright freezer and a circular saw at Lowes. My wife and daughter read the Twilight series and tonight my wife rented the movie and we are watching it. She wants to go see the second movie when it comes out Nov. 20th, which is her birthday.

Ran 5.3 miles in 1:02:59. Felt pretty good on the run. Still having some stomach issues. It seems to be a little worse today. Not sure what is going on.

Finished my script for the Winter Outlook story. It airs in about a week.

November 11, 2009

Ran/walked 5.3 miles in 1:04:12. Felt okay but still having some stomach issues.

Called my step-dad for Veteran's Day. He served 16 years in the Air Force. He's had some health problems this past year but doing better and hopes to be deer hunting soon. Then I tried to call my dad but he was out, my step-mother also served in the Air Force and told her happy Veteran's Day.

Someone from the local American Legion sent me a paper flower, a poppy, to wear on the air for
Veteran's Day.

Ran 5.1 miles (estimated) in 1:06:57. It was cloudy and cool (about 57) and I felt pretty good. Sort of getting bored with this loop so I may run on the River trail or LaFortune later this week just to break things up.
